MOSCOW – It’s hard not to be impressed by this video demonstration some Russian military hardware. The K-300P Bastion-P is a supersonic, Russian mobile coastal defence missile system used to destroy surface ships including carrier battle groups, convoys, and landing craft. Its main objective is the protection of the coasts stretching over 360 miles from enemy amphibious operations.

First deployed in 2015 in the Crimea, the missile is fired from the mobile, silo-based launcher you see below.

Firing one takes very little time. Once the mobile launcher is stopped, the missiles can be readied for firing within five minutes, and both fired in 2-5 second intervals. The missiles that it launches have a range of 180 miles, the capacity to carry a 440 lb warhead and the unique ability to be able to cruise a few feet above the water surface, making it difficult to detect and intercept.

The Bastion coastal missile system is in service with the Russian Armed Forces. The system has been delivered to Syria and Vietnam.
