The exact cause of the incident is still unknown but there are reports that the engine on the catamaran failed. The four crew members aboard the stricken vessel were rescued from the fast-moving, frigid water by a boat that was monitoring the construction of the Chacao Bridge, and transferred to the San Carlos Maullín Hospital. No word on their condition although it appears all managed to survive the incident without serious injury.
