ROTTERDAM – On the night of January 1, 2019, MSC Zoe lost 342 containers in heavy weather on the journey from Portugal to Bremerhaven. The incident was the second-largest known container loss of a ship due to heavy weather. Only the Svendborg Maersk lost more, 517, in 2014.

The Dutch Safety Board asked Deltares and the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) to investigate the incident to determine what caused it and how to prevent something similar happening in the future.

The fascinating six-minute video below, released just last week, outlines their findings and is a must-watch for anyone in the industry.
