VIDEO: Ro-Ro/Passenger ship fire. Dramatic sea rescue of crew

JAKARTA, INDONESIA – Fire broke out on the Ro-Ro/Passenger ship BAHARI INDONESIA on the evening of July 21 in Java sea north of Jakarta. Thick smoke quickly engulfed the vessel forcing the crew of 26 to abandon ship in lifeboats. The crew were rescued by a nearby vessel. There were no passengers onboard at the time although the ship was carrying 20 vehicles.

The BAHARI INDONESIA is understood to be drifting – she’s to be towed to the Port of Ketapang, according to an official statement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. All crew members are safe and accounted for.
