VIDEO: How were medieval bridges built over water?

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – Ever wondered how medieval bridges were built over water? The good people at the Prague Archeological society prepared the animation below to show you how it was done.

The city of Prague in the Czech Republic boasts some 300 bridges – eighteen of them span across river Vltava, and hundreds of other lead over many smaller rivers and brooks, and valleys.

Without question, the most famous of Prague’s bridges is the Charles bridge (featured above), which began construction in 1357 under the rule of King Charles IV, and completed at the beginning of the 15th century.
