QUITO, ECUADOR – A crane operator in Guayaquil, Ecuador captured dramatic footage of a Chinese ship crashing into a pedestrian bridge at the Ecuadorian Naval Shipyard on June 16th. The Chinese flagged FU YUAN YU LENG 999 lost control when entering a dock and only came to a stop after making contact with the bridge.
The ship involved in the incident was seized by the Ecuadorian authorities in 2017 for fishing illegally in the Galapagos Islands. Upon its seizure, the factory fishing mother ship was found to contain 300 tons of fish including 6,000 finned sharks. Since its seizure, the vessel has been in the possession of the National Navy.
