11 people were killed when a massive 70-tonne jetty crane collapsed during a load test in the Hindustan Shipyard Limited in India
NEW DELHI– At least 11 persons were killed in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday when a crane involved in construction work collapsed during load testing at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL).
The HSL is a government-run shipbuilding company. A video captured by a CCTV camera showed the crane suddenly falling over the people working at the location. The victims were crushed to death immediately.
Poor safety record
This latest incident is just the latest in a string of major industrial mishaps in this port city hub and industrial center.
Last May a gas leak at Korean-owned LG Polymers killed at least two-dozen people.

In 2013 a fire accident at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporations complex claimed 28 lives.
As many as 19 people were burnt alive and scores injured in an explosion in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in 2012.
