Last Wednesday morning, the bodies of 39 Chinese and Vietnamese nationals were found in a refrigerated truck trailer just outside the Purfleet freight terminal, a ro/ro freight ferry port 18 miles outside of London on the River Thames.

ESSEX, ENGLAND – The truck driver accused of manslaughter after dozens of bodies were found in a refrigerated trailer in Essex has appeared in court via a video link.

Maurice “Mo” Robinson reportedly fainted when he discovered the bodies and has been questioned on whether he knew the migrants were in the container.

On Saturday he was charged with 39 counts of manslaughter, conspiracy to traffic people between 1 December 2018 and 24 October 2019, conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration in the same timeframe, and money laundering.

Three other people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and conspiracy to traffic people, and have been released on bail, Essex Police said on Sunday.
