Three Dead, Several Injured at Chittagong Shipbreaking Yard

CHITTAGONG, BANGLADESH – Three workers died and at least six were injured following a toxic gas leak onboard a tanker being dismantled at a shipbreaking yard in Chattogram, Bangladesh, the NGO Shipbreaking Platform said. 

The tragic incident occurred at the shipbreaking yard of MAK Corporation in Chittagong on July 31, 2019.

The workers killed and injured had been dismantling the tanker Medelin Atlas, an Indonesian oil tanker that was built in 1989. It’s last registered owner was Waruna Nusa Sentana, an Indonesian based company.
