Scenic Eclipse, the world’s first discovery yacht that will be operated by Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, has been delivered by its Croatian shipbuilder.
Following the delivery, the newbuild Scenic Eclipse is to embark on a maiden voyage scheduled for August 15, 2019. The cruise ship is expected to depart Reykjavik, Iceland, on a 13-day discovery sailing ending in Quebec on August 27. Prices for Antarctic 12 day cruises start at $18,000 US.
Scenic recently unveiled that the ship will be christened by Helen Mirren, an English actress and Academy Award winner, in New York on September 10, 2019.
The ocean-going expedition ship is capable of sailing in polar waters as it has Polar Class 6 Cold DI. With a length of 280 feet (168 meters) and a breadth of 36 feet (21.5 meters), the newbuild features the latest environmentally-friendly technologies.
Scenic Eclipse’s 114 all-verandah suites will range in size from 345 to 2,659 square feet. The vessel will offer guests 10 dining options including Asian Fusion, French fine dining, a chef’s table and a poolside buffet. Scenic Eclipse will also feature a 5,920 square foot spa with a health and fitness centre and a separate yoga and Pilates studio.
Using the ship’s two six-guest helicopters and one six-guest submarine, capable of venturing nearly 1,000 feet below sea level, Scenic Eclipse will also offer guests customized excursions. The ship will also include a theatre for entertainment and lectures; indoor and outdoor plunge pools and butler service for all guests.
The vessel will also feature stabilizer fins, a Polar Class 6 ice-class rating and redundancies in propulsion, navigation, safety systems and food refrigeration. A dynamic GPS positioning system is designed to reduce environmental impact in sensitive areas.
