Tanker attacked, Captain murdered by pirates in Venezuela

CARACAS – A Colombian tanker captain has been murdered by pirates on Monday, February 24th at 1:00 AM who were attacking his vessel. The incident took place while ship was at anchorage.

The tanker SAN RAMON (SEABOARD I) was attacked by 6 armed pirates early in the morning Feb 24 in Boraccha island waters, north of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, Caribbean.

The was shot in the face and died, trying to resist. One other crew member was injured, and another crew jumped overboard and is missing. Pirates looted the ship and crew, and fled.

There are reports that the tanker has been anchored during the last 7 months under Court order, as a suspect in oil smuggling. She was recently renamed and re-flagged in Oct last year.
