Hamburg, Germany – Police in Europe have arrested at least 84 suspected Ndrangheta crime syndicate members and seized around 2 million euros ($USD 2.3 million) in co-ordinated raids that targeted a powerful branch of the Italian mafia.
Hundreds of police took part in Wednesday’s operation, seizing four tonnes of cocaine, 120 kilos of ecstasy and two million euros (dollars) in cash across Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Suriname.
Italian National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor Federico Cafiero De Raho said the drug trafficking ring moved an estimated two tonnes of cocaine and hashish through the Dutch ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and through Gioia Tauro, Naples, Salerno, Genoa, and Livorno ports in Italy.
