JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – A passenger onboard the MSC Cruise Ship Orchestra apparently jumped overboard into the Indian Ocean on New Year’s eve. The ship was sailing from South Africa to Mauritius when the incident took place.

Search teams were scrambled and spent an hour scouring the ocean off the coast of Madagascar for him, before finally sighting him and bringing him back to the ship. One passenger reported on social media that the victim is a teenager who may have attempted suicide.

According to MSC, after an hour-long search, the crew successfully found the victim injured but alive. Video shows the moment that the young man was transferred from a rescue craft back onto the Orchestra.

Ross Volk, managing director of MSC Cruises, said the man suffered only minor injuries and the cruise was able to continue as scheduled.
