Maritime Image of the Day: “Sub Kill Shot”

PortandTerminal.com, November 14, 2020

“For every sailor who’s not in a submarine, submarines are real scary”

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – Today’s Maritime Image of the Day is menacing. It was taken during war game manoeuvres in 2018 and shows the simulated “kill shot” of a U.S. Navy nuclear attack submarine sinking a British carrier. Had the scenario been real, the carrier was within kill range. Lots of sailors would have died.

“A photo depicting an American nuclear-powered submarine poking its periscope above the waves—within shooting distance of a British aircraft carrier during a war game—is a useful reminder of one of the most important truths of naval warfare.” – The National Interest
