HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – Today’s Maritime Image of the Day was taken by Valerie O’Sullivan, a talented Irish photographer, media provider and published author.
O’Sullivan’s photo is a very recent one that captures the raw power of Storm Dennis as its waves crash onto the shores of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland this weekend.
Much of Ireland and other parts in the UK are under severe storm warning once again as the second storm in as many weeks batters its coastline.
In case you may be wondering, the purple coloring on the back of the sheep featured in today’s Maritime Image of the Day is there for two reasons. It is there as a mark to identify who owns it as it grazes on the Commonage or if the animal is ram, to imply its insemination. Our thanks to @SkelligKerry and @WAWHour for that information.
In addition to her work as a photographer, Valerie has won many national awards in the annual Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland competition and her previous books include Ireland’s Atlantic Shore: People and Places from Mizen to Malin (2012) and I am of Kerry (2003).
