Maritime Image of the Day: “Ashopton Comet” by Kieran Metcalfe

PortandTerminal.com, July 15, 2020

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – Today’s “Maritime Image of the Day” was taken by Kieran Metcalfe, a talented and perseverant English photographer and graphic designer.

Metcalfe’s photo is of the comet NEOWISE and was taken just a few days ago at the Peak District National Park over a viaduct in central England.

Comet. Bridge. Water. Mountain
“Comet Neowise (or C2020/F3 to give it its Sunday name) hanging in the sky on a clear night over Derwent Edge and Ashoptop Viaduct”

Metcalfe had been hunting the shot and sharing his intention to bag it on social media. Progress updates were shared along the way.

In the end, what an incredibly beautiful photo he captured. Calming, serene and a reminder that there is another order beyond the chaos that we find our own world to be in right now.

“I was over the moon to find that the water was still enough for a decent reflection, and then the moon rose and lit the bridge too!” Metcalfe posted after bagging the shot that he was after.
