LEAKED VIDEO: Refrigerated truck slams into low lying bridge

PortandTerminal.com, October 1, 2020

DURHAM, NC – Today’s leaked video has a heck of a back-story.

There’s a 70-year-old train trestle in Durham, NC owned by the North Carolina Railroad Company that has been involved in 150 crashes between 2008 and 2019.

For the past ten years, Jürgen Henn has filmed over-height trucks crashing into the 11-foot 8-inch train bridge affectionately nicknamed the “Can Opener” that he loads onto his website — www.11foot8.com

Jürgen Henn has set up a camera and a website, www.11foot8.com, to document the trucks that don’t heed the warnings and smash into the low-lying bridge.

At the time when the bridge was built, there were no standards for minimum clearance. As a result, its clearance is slightly less than the many trucks that try to pass under it.

To prevent damage to the bridge itself, a clearance bar and lots of warning signage were installed. But not everyone heeds the warnings as today’s video shows.

Check out Jürgen’s website 11foot8.com which is dedicated to this famous train trestle and the havoc that it periodically causes. Check out his documentary below for the full story.
