A fuel tanker explosion on a highway in Colombia left 11 people dead and injured 52 after they were captured on video attempting to steal gasoline.
BOGOTA, COLOMBIA – Incident video has surfaced after an overturned fuel truck exploded while people were looting it in Colombia last week.
At least 11 people have burned to death after an overturned gasoline tanker exploded in northern Colombia, local police say.
The incident occurred Monday morning in Magdalena, Colombia, after the truck’s driver lost control of his vehicle, which had 5,000 gallons of gasoline when a giant caiman blocked his path. The tanker overturned and landed on the side in a grass field.
Within minutes, residents from the nearby town of Tasajera showed up with large containers to extract fuel from the tank.
‘I told them, it’s premium, premium gasoline, that thing could catch fire,’ said the truck driver, who initially thought the large crowd was there to help him.
More than 52 people were injured in the incident on the road near the town of Pueblo Viejo on the Caribbean coast, the police said.
Crowds had gathered around the tanker to try to siphon off fuel when the vehicle burst into flames.
