Jihadists have captured an important port in northern Mozambique after a week-long offensive.
MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE -There are reports that militants linked to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group have seized Mocimboa da Praia, a heavily-defended port in northern Mozambique, after days of fighting.
The port is used for cargo deliveries to the oil projects about 37 miles away, which are being developed by oil giants including French oil giant Total.

Regional media reported on Wednesday that government forces defending the Port of Mocimboa da Praia fled by boat after running out of ammunition.
An estimated 55 soldiers were reported to have died in the fighting and another 90 were injured.
The attacking militants have links with the Islamic State terror group.
In recent months militants have taken a number of northern towns, displacing tens of thousands of people.
