“It’s my greatest concern. My single greatest concern,” Biden said. “This president is going to try to steal this election.”
WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Joe Biden said late Wednesday that he’s “absolutely convinced” the military would escort President Trump from the White House if the presumptive Democratic nominee wins the general election in November.
Biden was asked on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” whether he’s thought about the possibility of Trump refusing to leave office.
“Yes, I have,” Biden said.
He went on to list a number of former high-ranking military officials who have spoken out about Trump’s actions in response to protests that swept the nation following the police killing of George Floyd. Biden cited those remarks as proof that the military would intervene if Trump did not accept the election results.
“I promise, I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” the former vice president said.
But what if they are confronted by armed resistance?
Getting Ready for the Inevitable Showdown?
Despite his bluster and tweeting, President Trump knows that his administration’s handling of the pandemic, economic crisis and continuing George Floyd protests have not helped his reelection campaign.
Deservedly, or undeservedly depending on how you see things, President Trump is carrying much of the blame for the fact that 80% of voters in a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC say that America is now “out of control”.
Even worse is a CNN poll released on Monday that shows Joe Biden ahead of President Trump in the election polls by 14 points – 55 to 41 percent.
Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt today was so downbeat on the President’s reelection chances that he said Republicans running in November will “have to watch and wait and see” in terms of possibly backing away from the president. Ouch.
“At some point, if you are running for Senate, if you’re running for governor, if you’re running for the House, at some point, do you start to separate yourself?”Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt
Is it not likely that President Trump and his ardent loyalists see the writing on the wall and are preparing for a loss in November? What would the president’s “Plan B” look like if he suffers a humiliating defeat?
If President Trump loses the election and decides not to go, it is likely that he will claim that the election was stolen from him, demand a lengthy investigation and refuse to vacate the Oval Office until he gets one.
Fearing that the military may come in to “escort him from the White House” as Joe Biden warned on Wednesday, the president would need to defend himself and buy time.
Is it at this point that a loyalist group of armed officers step in to “protect” the sitting president until the investigation that he demanded was carried out on his terms?
We may have already had a glimpse at who would be defending the president in that scenario.
Last week, unidentified, armed law enforcement personnel were called into Washington to “serve a broader mission” at the request of Attorney General William Barr.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) confirmed to NBC that it had sent prison riot police to Washington at Barr’s request, and said “they do not carry badges and are not wearing BOP -specific clothing as they are serving a broader mission.”
Would Attorney General Barr repeat his call to arms to defend President Trump’s claim that a rigged election was being used to unseat the rightful president of the United States?
Dug into the White House, surrounded by his loyalists and Twitter, America will then be forced to make some hard choices about how far it wants to take things to remove President Trump from office.
