COVID-19: LEXA MAERSK to arrive in Rotterdam for treatment after going ghost

PortandTerminal.com, May 16, 2020

ROTTERDAM – The LEXA MAERSK is due to arrive at the Port of Rotterdam on May 18 with 6 crew including the ship’s captain, believed to be infected with COVID-19.

Earlier in May the vessel had to interrupt her voyage and call on Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands, to medevac an ill seaman with fever symptoms. A government statement at the time said the man was suffering from “respiratory distress”. The ship had been refused entry into Puerto Rico.

There are now reports that the ship’s AIS has been turned off since May 12, last position dated evening May 12, SW of Azores, heading for Northern Europe, port of destination undeclared.
