Coast Guard warns Florida bridge at “risk of an imminent collapse”

PortandTerminal.com, June 17, 2020

STUART, FL – The Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart, Florida, is “at risk of an imminent collapse,” the Coast Guard has warned this morning. All vessels have been instructed to keep clear of the bridge until further notice.

The Roosevelt Bridge was built 24 years ago and spans the St. Lucie River.

Local media have broadcast images that show a large crack that appeared along the south end of the bridge.

Officials have closed off the southbound lanes indefinitely. Northbound lanes have been split to accommodate southbound and northbound traffic.
