BEIJING – Local residents in Yichang City, China suspect that a severe flood that has struck their city was caused by a failure from the nearby Three Gorges Dam. Yichang is only 12 miles away from the Three Gorges Dam.
Three Gorges Dam
The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012.
Chinese experts have dismissed recent rumors that the dam is at risk of collapse, noting it is intact and has spare capacity to hold the current inflows of water after southern parts of China experienced heavy rainfall and the Three Gorges reservoir’s water level exceeded the flood control line.
