BREAKING: 34 people still trapped below deck in Santa Cruz dive boat fire

PortandTerminal.com, Sept. 2, 2019

SANTA CRUZ, CA – Conception, a 75 ft commercial dive vessel is on fire off the coast of California near Santa Cruz Island. Only 5 crew members have gotten off the boat and tragically 34 passengers are still trapped below deck. The fire started in the very early hours of the morning on Labor Day, September 2nd.

Rescue vessels are on the scene.

USCG is helping support first responders at the scene. The call came in at 03:28 am this morning.

Vessel owner

The Conception is owned by Truth Aquatics, a dive company based in Santa Barbara, CA. In addition to the Conception, the company has two other similar dive vessels.

The Conception was built in Long Beach in 1981. The vessel has
rafts and jackets for 110 passengers – whether the passengers trapped on the ship can make use of them seems unlikely at this time.
