BEIRUT – Details are still thin on the ground as to what caused the massive explosion near Beirut’s port. What is clear is that the explosion has caused serious damage to Lebanon’s capital city and that casualties are almost a certainty. RT is reporting that Lebanon’s health minister said on TV that there are a ‘very high’ number of injuries.
State-run National News Agency is reporting that the explosion may have occurred at a fireworks warehouse near the city’s port. This information has been contradicted by other reports though suggesting that the explosion occurred on a ship at the port docked near a grain silo.
Several video appears to show minor explosions similar to fireworks occurring before the main blast tore through the city.
